When a boat or
yacht is placed on the market for sale, it is most productive to choose a
market area where there is
the highest demand for your particular vessel. In many cases this may
require relocation or
hauling the boat by means of trucking or a barge. Close attention should be
given to all machinery and
hardware in need of repair. A close inspection should be given to the
rigging on a sail
boat.
Yacht owners can do
their own research by consulting the BUC Used Boat Price Guide. BUC Research has been
publishing the guide since 1961. They give statistically authenticated
sail and power boat
pricing with an area condition and equipment list. The BUC Used Price
Guide is the Blue Book
for pricing boats and yachts.
Insurance companies
and marine surveyors use the BUC Used Price Guide for reference.
Boat and yacht owners
should pay close attention to the area scale and the pricing adjustments
for the different areas. The BUC Used Price Guide has information on the area where your
boat or yacht will have
the best chance of eliciting a sale in the shortest period of
time.
Helpful hint: have
a recent certified appraisal or marine survey report list any extra marine
equipment and have the
marine surveyor make recommendations to prepare your boat or yacht to
come on the sales market
place. Be sure to have your boat or yacht in BUC’s Condition III or
better when it is ready for
sale
